About Eco Friendly Holiday Cottages

If you have found our website you will be fully aware of the environmental, and economic, benefits of choosing to spend holidays in the UK, Ireland or France.  Not only do you reduce your carbon footprint, you also help local economies to sustain themselves. The ground-up restoration of many of the holiday cottages on this website is in itself the ultimate form of recycling and your bookings make such recycling economically viable in the first place.

We operate our own sustainable eco friendly holiday cottages in Northumberland, themselves created from redundant agricultural buildings, and we are hoping to install a water turbine to provide most of our electricity.  The support we have received from our own guests for this project has been quite overwhelming, many of them telling us how difficult it can be to find a holiday cottage where sustainability is taken seriously.

In late 2013 we created The Cottage Cooperative, which has a number of websites like this one to help guests find the exact type of cottage they want.  Cottages on our websites are owned by like- minded members who abide by a genuine code of advertising and are committed to offering a high quality service to guests.

For this reason there will never be hundreds of cottages on this website, but as members must agree to our standards before advertising, you should enjoy more peace of mind when booking.  We may well not yet have a cottage of the size you require in the area you want, but please check back as membership is growing slowly but surely.

All of the cottages in the Eco Friendly Holiday Cottages collection are listed on this website not only because they have the achieved a minimum standard of sustainability, but also on the understanding that each member strives towards continuous environmental improvement.

We hope you enjoy a happy, sustainable holiday!
